At Islamia Girls’ School, Religious Studies is one of the most important departments in the school as it is at the centre of promoting the Islamic ethos; the key to success in both this life and the next. The department is always developing itself in order to give the students the best possible education.
Providing the students with a more modern approach to studying topics related to Islam. The students look at today’s issues – perhaps including things one sees or reads about in the news. They will also look at different philosophies and learn about ethics in areas such as science, war and peace, poverty and wealth and suffering in the world. The students will acquire skills in interpreting and evaluating pieces of information, communicating and applying their knowledge, and in examining the responses to life issues from the perspective of the major world faiths.
All students will study Comparative Religions which touch upon key beliefs and practices, doctrine and rites at KS3 where a great emphasis is placed in promoting understanding and awareness of other faiths. Students will also take an active role in Islamic Studies so that they understand how to perform key acts of worship and appreciate the deeper importance and benefits of our Ibadah. Inspirational stories and dynamic Islamic role models, such as Prophets and Companions, will be studied so we can learn from their legacy. Pupils are trained to take part in debate lessons and develop their skills of delivering their views on religious and life issues through collaborative group work.
