PGL Residential Trip

PGL Residential Trip

Our girls had an unforgettable experience during their recent residential trip to PGL, where they immersed themselves in a wide range of adventurous, survivor-style activities designed to build confidence, independence, and teamwork in a safe outdoor environment.

Across the three days, the students were challenged both physically and mentally as they stepped outside their comfort zones and discovered new strengths within themselves.

Throughout the trip, the girls worked collaboratively to complete practical survival tasks, including building a sturdy tent. This required effective communication, problem-solving, and cooperation, helping them understand the importance of teamwork under pressure. They also learned how to safely sharpen wooden sticks under close supervision, developing responsibility and respect when using tools.

A key focus of the experience was learning essential outdoor survival skills. One such skill was fire lighting, where students were taught how fire provides warmth, light, and the ability to cook food. By carefully using dry materials and following instructions, the girls developed patience, responsibility, and awareness of safety.

The adventure activities were a highlight of the trip and played a major role in building confidence. The Giant Swing pushed students to face fear in a controlled and supportive environment, helping them develop courage, trust, and resilience. Similarly, abseiling encouraged them to overcome anxiety, rely on safety equipment and instructors, and feel a strong sense of achievement after completing the descent.

Climbing presented another exciting challenge. Many students initially felt nervous, but through determination and perseverance, they overcame their fears. This experience strengthened their problem-solving skills, balance, and resilience while boosting their confidence in their own abilities.

Canoeing was another favourite activity. Students worked in pairs and small teams to navigate the water, improving coordination, communication, and teamwork. They enjoyed the sense of independence that comes from learning to control a canoe in a safe and structured environment.

The zip wire activity was a thrilling highlight, helping students push past fear while building trust in safety procedures and equipment. It encouraged bravery, focus, and the willingness to try new experiences.

Archery sessions allowed students to develop concentration, patience, and hand-eye coordination. The girls showed great discipline and determination as they improved their aim and learned new skills.

In addition to daytime activities, students also enjoyed evening entertainment, including cinema night and group outdoor sessions, giving them time to relax, reflect, and strengthen friendships.

Overall, the PGL residential trip was a highly enriching experience. It helped students grow in confidence, resilience, independence, and teamwork while creating lasting memories and a strong sense of achievement.
