Year 9 students from Brondesbury College (BCB) and Islamia Girls School (IGS) took part in a videography workshop this month. Led by media professional Wesam Kittani, the sessions gave students hands-on experience in filming, editing, and creative teamwork.
The full-day workshop was held on site at BCB on the 25th, and IGS on the 26th of June. It ran from the first period until the end of the school day, offering students a unique, immersive experience in video production.
The sessions were led by professional media and videography expert Wesam Kittani, who guided our students through the creative process of filming, editing, and storytelling. Students also learned how to operate video cameras and microphones, then imported their footage into editing software to produce their own personalised videos—complete with sound effects, transitions, and enhancements.
This annual workshop is part of our school’s wider commitment to developing students' creative expression, media literacy, and collaborative skills. Designed specifically for 13–14-year-olds, the experience aims to introduce students to the technical and artistic aspects of digital media.
In addition to learning practical skills, students worked in teams to plan, script, and film content, encouraging communication and problem-solving in a real-world context. The initiative also ties into multiple curriculum areas, including English, ICT, Art, and Citizenship.
Some of the highlights of the day included:
After the workshop, our students were proud presented their finished videos to their classmates and teachers, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback. Many of them expressed their excitement about continuing their journey next year with a planned work experience programme at Alhiwar TV, where they will have the chance to apply their skills in a professional broadcast environment.
According to supervising teachers, all our students were excited to see the results of their work and everyone gave excellent feedback.
