Learning Support

Learning Support

We value every learner and are committed to responding to the challenges they may face. Inclusivity is at the heart of Islamia Girls School.

Our students demonstrate a high level of academic intelligence. Some may require additional support to help them access and develop their individual strengths, skills and abilities. With the right support, we’ve seen how these students consistently achieve excellent results.

Our teachers and staff work closely with students, to identify and support their additional needs. We endeavour to ensure every child can access the curriculum irrespective of their special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), as well as any academic or emotional difficulties they may be tackling.

Identifying and assessing SEND

Where there are concerns about a child’s needs, we assist parents in arranging assessments. Once reports are received and a need is confirmed, we provide additional learning support to the child in line with the recommendations.

The school also supports parents in making applications for an EHCP plan to the local authority.

If parents provide evidence of a need supported by a GP letter but without a specialist diagnosis, the school will still create a support plan. However, in line with JCQ exam board requirements (see links below), additional exam time cannot be granted without an official specialist diagnosis.

Supporting SEND

When a child receives a confirmed diagnosis of a need (including any medical needs), our SEND officer creates an individual support plan for her. The plan is shared with all teachers, and the SEND officer monitors the plan to ensure it is being followed through with consistency.

Parents are always involved in discussions about the plan and any support their child will receive.

Pastoral care is also available to students with additional needs. Our pastoral officer will meet with the child once or twice a week to provide emotional support.

All staff at Islamia Girls School receive SEND training and are regularly updated by the SEND officer on any changes or developments.

Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) access the same curriculum as their peers. Leaders identify their needs and provide appropriate support.Ofsted 2023
