Sponsored Walk for Sudan

Sponsored Walk for Sudan

Islamia Girls Schools students raise £13,000 and counting for Sudan, in our annual sponsored walk.

On October 15, staff and students from Islamia Girls School (IGS) laced up their walking shoes for our annual charity walk, in aid of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan. The 6-mile route took us from the school gates all the way to the London Central Mosque, in Regents Park.

Students wore non-uniform clothing in the colours of the Sudanese flag, sporting face-paint and holding placards as they walked. Completing 19,000 steps helped us work up an appetite, so we found a sweet spot at Regents Park and enjoyed a packed lunch picnic by the lake. Arriving at the mosque in time for Dhuhr, we performed Salah together as a community and concluded with a Du’a for our brothers and sisters under oppression.

The IGS sponsored walk is an annual event. This year's brought together the Islamia community, in an effort to raise awareness and aid for the plight of the people of Sudan. We had a  £50 minimum participation fee, but everyone who got involved achieved outstanding fundraising targets. Thanks to their efforts and the generosity of the community, we raised just over £13,000!

All proceeds will be going to the people of Sudan, through the UK based charity, Muslim Hands. If you’d like to contribute to the cause, you can donate through our JustGiving page here.

This event was a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to give back, and we are incredibly proud of the community response. Well done to all our students and staff for their dedication and effort!
