Clubs & Activities

Extracurricular activates are key to the holistic support we strive to provide for our students at Islamia Girls School. They enrich our curriculum and provide pathways to social, moral and spiritual development. 

We have thirteen clubs and a range of subject-based support groups for supplementary and targeted learning.They provide further opportunities for learning and revision to students who enjoy participating in national competitions and awards, such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award. 

We also organise regular trips and promote student-led social responsibility initiatives. Each year, everyone looks forward to our annual school events — many of them planned and run entirely by students. There is a lot going on out of the classroom, at Islamia Girls School. Clubs

Muslima Club Organised by Saba Hussain and others, this club hosts games, quizzes and discussions about religion. It runs throughout the year. Wednesdays 15:40 - 16:40 Support Room For Years 7-11 £10 for six sessions (including refreshments)
LAMDA Run by qualified LAMDA instructors, Gabi Maddocks & Jennie Eggleton, LAMDA helps students develop reading fluency, a richer vocabulary, stronger memory and recall, improved communication skills, and the confidence to structure and deliver compelling speeches. It will run for 13 sessions from week beginning January 2025. There will be an exam to sit. Lunch time + P5 13:00-15:00   For Years 10-11

Science Club Run by the Science Department, Science Club offers students the chance to explore scientific concepts through hands-on experiments, while developing critical thinking skills and a deeper passion for science. It runs throughout the year. Mondays 15:45 - 16:45 Science Lab For Years 7-9 £5
Maths Club Run by the Maths Department, Maths Club encourages a positive attitude toward the subject, sparks curiosity, and promotes cross-curricular thinking. It helps students explore real-world applications of maths and see it as a meaningful part of everyday life. Mondays 15:45 - 16:45 for Year 11s. Thursdays 15:45 - 16:45 for Years 10, 9, 8 and 7. Robotics & Coding Club Run by the Computer Science Department, Coding Club introduces students to the fundamentals of programming, helping them understand how software works and how to create actions and instructions that bring programs to life. It runs throughout the year. Fridays 15:40 - 16:40 ICT Room Years 7-11 £5 (which goes towards equipment and prizes)
Self Defence Club External organisers provide kick-boxing or Taekwondo lessons to help students build self-confidence, improve focus and concentration, develop self-discipline, and strengthen mental resilience. TBC IGS Gym For everyone TBC
Basketball Club Run by Ms Nina Monan, Basketball Club supports students in developing their skills while promoting health, teamwork, and enjoyment in a safe, supportive environment. It runs throughout the year. Mondays 15:45 - 16:35 IGS For Years 9-11 Sept - Oct; and Years 7-8 Feb - June £5 (which goes towards equipment and prizes)
Sewing & DT/ Handcrafts Club Run by Mrs Hana, Sewing Club allows students to enjoy the creative process while developing fine motor skills, focus, and hand–eye coordination. It’s a fun and valuable craft that encourages sharing, patience, and self-expression. The club runs throughout the year. Tuesdays Art & Arabic Room Open to all £25 for 6 sessions
Drama Club Drama Club welcomes all students interested in exploring theatre — from acting and stagecraft to set design, costumes, and makeup. It’s a space to build confidence, creativity, and collaboration through performance. TBC Masjid Open to all £40 for 10 sessions
Chess Club Run by Mr M Ayari, Chess Club introduces students to the fundamentals of the game while strengthening focus, critical thinking, and analytical skills through strategic play. The club runs throughout the year. Tuesdays at lunch time Arabic Room Open to all Free
Videography & Media  Club Run by Mr Wesam Kittani of First Anchor Organisations, Videography Club teaches students how to capture and edit videos professionally, to preserve meaningful moments and tell compelling stories. Whether for personal memories or creative projects, students gain valuable media skills — culminating in a studio visit to Al-Hiwar TV or a similar professional setting for hands-on experience. Spelling Bee This club helps students improve their spelling, expand their vocabulary, and develop strong English language skills that support lifelong learning. TBC English Room Open to all Free
Caligraphy Club Calligraphy helps unlock the brain’s potential for focus, memory, and learning. Through this mindful art form, students build concentration, patience, and fine motor skills. TBC One day workshop (4 hrs) in July Years 7-8 Free

 

Subject Support Groups

Subject support groups provide further opportunities for learning and revision to students who enjoy participating in national competitions and awards as well as those who want to build on their classroom learning. We have four groups running throughout the year:

  • Qur’an Academy
  • Science Support Group
  • Maths Support Group – for UKMT participants
  • Geography Support Group

National Competitions & Awards

Our students regularly take part in national competitions, bringing home bronze, gold and even silver meddals across subjects spanning science to maths. Some of the competions we participate in each year include:

Student Initiatives

Our student-led social initiatives inspire a strong sense of compassion and responsibility. From organising sponsored walks for the National Zakat Foundation to hosting creative fundraising events that have raised up to £50,000 (!) our students actively support meaningful causes.
