IGS Alumni Projects 2009/10
Alumni Art Festival/Competition
During the academic year 2009/10, IGS Alumni plan to host a series of art related events to bring everyone together and to get creative! This will include gallery visits, inspirational outings, artist presentations and workshops. All this is to help with preparation for a huge Alumni Art Exhibition at the very end of the year, where your work will be presented, and competition winners will be judged and announced. Booster Classes
The Booster Classes held in the academic year 2008/09 by IGS Alumni where a great success and inshAllah we plan to continue them this year. If you are interested in getting involved please contact us. Remember you will get paid for your time! The classes provide you with a chance for you to tutor the current IGS girls who are either struggling with certain aspects of their studies, or are just looking for some extra practice. You will have the opportunity to run your own classes on Wednesdays after school, based on an academic subject you feel is your specialty. Not only will this benefit the students but you will have the chance to earn extra cash, make your CV more attractive to future employers, and gain valuable teaching experience as well as a review of the basics of the subject you will be teaching.
Community Work
The aim of this project is to reach out to the immediate community outside of IGS. It is to get current and ex-IGS girls to participate in community work such as visiting the elderly, youth work, conservation projects, and work with the disabled; activities that will help benefit and make a difference to those who are less fortunate or in need of support (as was encouraged by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ص). IGS Alumni hope to work with a variety of different charities that help the community local to IGS, and to assist the current students in any charity projects they are involved in throughout the year. Not only will your work in the community benefit your character and no doubt gain you large amounts of good deed, you will be changing people’s perceptions of Islam daily. Annual Alumni Dinner Last academic year started off with a great Alumni Iftar, which alhamdulillah was a great success are really brought everyone together in the blessed month of Ramadan. We hope to continue this tradition, but need your help to come up with new ideas and to assist by volunteering to organize the event.
Annual Leavers Trip
We all maybe remember our last few weeks at IGS as preparing for exams, but wouldn’t it be so much better to finish of the happy years with a really memorable trip? Inshallah we plan at the end of every summer term to arrange a ‘Leavers’ trip for the Year 11 students as well as members of the Alumni; a chance not only to bring us all a little closer, but to unwind a bit from our busy lives, and catch up with old school-mates. If you have any ideas for this years trip and/or would like to help us organize it, please get in touch!
Adult Classes
The aim for this project is to push Islamia School into the first steps of becoming a centre for seeking knowledge and education in London, at the same time helping old students to keep steadfast in the deen Inshallah. As the facilities are all present for us (mosque, canteen, gym, classrooms etc ) we hope to slowly start using IGS as a venue for events and Islamic lectures, as well as a site for regular adult classes to improve our knowledge and understanding of Qur'aan, Arabic, and Aqeedah inshallah - but for this to be successful we need good turnouts, so this is a unique opportunity for everyone to get involved and make a massive difference.
Other Ideas?
