| Bismillahi al-Rahman al-Rahim 'Oh my Lord! Increase me in knowledge.' (20:114) Islamia Girls’ School is ranked as one of the best 50 secondary schools in London. National exam league tables regularly put IGS in the top 3 schools in the Borough of Brent, which is a testament to the commitment and dedication of all those involved since its foundation in 1989. The school grew out of the success of Islamia Primary School, which was founded earlier in 1983 and went on to become the first Muslim school in the country to be granted government funding. Like most independent fee-paying schools Islamia Girls’ School enjoys the strong support of parents who believe in excellence through hard work and dedication. Its popularity has meant that it has been oversubscribed every year to its full capacity accommodating five classes of 125 students. Dating back to 1895, the Islamia Schools Centre building was previously a prestigious grammar school. The historic building incorporates up to date facilities boasting of, amongst other things, a hi-tech computer suite, fully equipped gymnasium and science laboratories, and a spacious mosque and hall for congregational prayers. The school is managed by dedicated professional staff under the auspices of the Islamia Schools’ Trust, a fully registered U.K. charity, dependent solely on fees and contributions from patrons and donors. Good education is essential for all children to enable them to live, study and work in a multi-cultural, multi-faith Britain. Here at IGS, our aim is to give our students a strong sense of identity as Muslim women, and to provide them with an understanding of Islam that prepares them to excel in higher education and contribute to the wider world. This is increasingly relevant given the present global situation. I hope you find this website informative and useful in deciding on the next stage of your daughter’s education. If you have chosen to entrust IGS with your beloved child’s education, as I did, you will find, in addition to academic achievement, the added benefit of support that comes from being part of the strong-knit community that is Islamia.
